發行版(distribution)和套件組別(Section)

為了要和Debian系統整合，大部份 Debian 相關的套件庫都會和 Debian 官方一樣分三個發行版本(distribution):

  • 穩定版(stable, lenny) - 配合 Debian 正式的發行版本，以現來說即是指 Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 (Lenny)。
  • 測式版(testing, squeeze) - 配合 Debian 正在測試中的版本，以就是指版本名稱 squeeze。
  • 不穩定版(unstable, sid) - 配合開發版本的 Debian。

而每個發行版本亦一般會分三個組別(Section):

  • main - 提供了 Debian 官方主要的軟件。這些軟件都符合 Debian Free Software Guideline(DFSG)，並會包括在官方安裝光碟中。
  • contrib - 提供了因為依靠了一些在Non-free組別套件 (即不符合Debian Free Software Guideline) 的套件。
  • non-free - 提供非自由軟件的套件。這些軟件都未能符合Debian Free Software Guideline(DFSG) 。

將軟體庫位置加在/etc/apt/sources.list尾。

在檔案/etc/apt/preferences加入以下幾行以以避免更新系統時自動安裝了backports中的套件： 

Package: *
Pin: release a=lenny-backports
Pin-Priority: 999

之後，你只有在打"apt-get -t lenny-backports install mutt"才會安裝backports提供的版本。
